The newest segments (Segments 1 & 2) of the Legacy Trail opened for public use on July 8. It’s an excellent way for cyclists and walkers to enjoy Sarasota’s beautiful flora and fauna. The multi-use, paved trail now stretches slightly north of Ashton Road to Proctor Road and ends on Bahia Vista Street.
The original Legacy Trail opened in 2008 and occupies a former railway corridor once used by the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. It offers more than 10 miles of trail from the Venice Train Depot to Culverhouse Nature Park.
When completed, the trail will connect North Port through Venice to downtown Sarasota and include crossings, trailheads, overpasses, and parking. As many as 400,000 people are estimated to use the park annually. I’m sure the number will grow! LEGACY TRAIL MAP
