June is a wonderful time of year in Sarasota. Although it’s the start of the rainy season, the liveliness in this vibrant city never ceases to amaze me. This month, we spotlight the charming neighborhood of Laurel Park, known for its historic homes and welcoming community vibe. Additionally, we’ll introduce you to one of the area’s premier landscape architectural firms, whose innovative designs transform outdoor spaces into stunning, functional works of art.
The real estate market in Sarasota is constantly bustling, and spring has been particularly busy. Since the start of the year, I’ve successfully closed 16 home sales. My partner, Steve, and I have also been fully engaged at Peninsula Sarasota, where only a few of its 23 condos remain for sale. The expected move-in date is at the end of 2024. READ ISSUE

As spring approaches, Sarasota is preparing for some thrilling events in April. Among them is the 26th Annual Sarasota Film Festival, which will be held from April 5 to 14, 2024. I also look forward to the 38th Annual Run for the Turtles on Siesta Key Beach, which will take place on April 6. Lastly, the final Ringling College Library Association Town Hall Series 2024, featuring Misty Copeland, the former principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre, will take place on April 15. Sarasota has a vibrant cultural arts scene in the spring, and March and April offer an exciting lineup of activities; here are a few:
The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall will present Hamilton from March 26 to April 7. This epic saga of passion and ambition tells the story of the dawn of a new nation and blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and Broadway music. The Historic Asolo Theater will showcase “Florida Women” from March 21 to 24. This dance theater experience was created by choreographers Leah Verier Dunn from Sarasota and Rosie Herrera from Miami. Lastly, the annual Sarasota Jazz Festival, which will take place from March 17 to 23, features performances by talented musicians and its headliner, Dee Bridgewater. Read Issue

In this first issue of 2024, I’m happy to share recent market data from the Real Estate Association of Sarasota-Manatee, which reported that the Sarasota housing inventory made an impressive recovery in 2023, reaching pre-COVID levels. It’s great news for buyers and sellers as it indicates a more stable market with increased inventory and median prices at a record high.
Other topics include a neighborhood feature: The Landings, a sought-after community west of S.Tamiami Trail set along Roberts Bay, Phillipi Creek, and the Intercoastal Waterway. Additionally, there is exciting news about the new Splash Pad and Children’s Playground at Bayfront Park, which is perfect for family fun. Sarasota is buzzing with excitement as the performing arts season kicks off its 2023-24 season. The Sarasota Ballet will feature seven new works, beginning with The Art of War. Meanwhile, the Florida Studio Theater is celebrating its 50th season with a lineup of Broadway hits and premieres, including the Little Shop of Horrors. The Sarasota Opera promises to be a feast for the senses, starting with Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. And don’t miss the magic and energy of Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe’s 24th season premiering with Once On This Island. There is also the Sarasota Orchestra, which will perform Beethoven’s Erotica. And there is so much more! Sarasota is the place for art and culture lovers this season.

The City of Sarasota once again escaped the direct impact of a hurricane. I think Native American folklore is true — that our lands are blessed to stay eternally safe from destructive storms and hurricanes. We are truly fortunate Ian caused only minimal damage in Sarasota. As we see in the images of the storm’s aftermath, it devastated many communities to our south. Our hearts go out to our Florida neighbors as they rebuild their lives. Let’s pitch in and help! Sarasota is in full bloom this spring. The Legacy Trail from downtown to Payne Park is complete — now you can bicycle to Venice. The Orioles Spring Training season opened this week at Ed Smith Stadium. And Sarasota Bradenton Airport recorded a historic number of travelers in January: 302,189, a 138 percent increase over January 2021.

It’s no secret that 2021 was a record-breaking year for the Sarasota real estate market. Houses and condos sold at record prices, bidding wars frequently took place for the limited inventory available, and not unusual for buyers to pay for home purchases entirely in cash.

In the Sarasota real estate market, we’re just a few months out from our high season. Right now, the Real Estate Association of Manatee and Sarasota (RASM) reports that we have less than half the number of available homes as we did this time last year. There’s still enormous buyer demand—expect competition, and therefore prices, to continue to rise. If you are thinking about selling your home, now is a great time!

We live in a rare time when it’s both a great time to sell and a great time to buy real estate. According to the Realtor Association of Sarasota and Manatee:
“If the trend [2020] continues – and data is showing that to be the likeliest forecast – then sellers can get top dollar in record-short timeframes, while buyers can lock in record-low interest rates and buy a home that is going to be worth much more a year from now. And if they do both, they can get the best of both worlds.”
